The BSGE Endometriosis Centres Scientific Advisory Group has published ground-breaking research in BMJ Open. Laparoscopic excision of deep rectovaginal endometriosis in BSGE endometriosis centres: a multicentre prospective cohort study, is the largest study of its kind in the world. Using data from the BSGE’s network of Endometriosis Centres, the study looked at nearly 5000 patients who had surgery for severe endometriosis, performed by more than 100 different surgeons in 51 different hospitals.
Why is this important to ICE?
- 8 Years ago ICE started working with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). Working closely with the committee ICE designed and developed an online outcomes application to allow Surgeons to feed in diagnostic, Surgical and follow-up information.
- This application provided the main evidence for this study and we at ICE are proud to have been part of a project that has and will help many women who have severe endometriosis.
- We do only see our role as a small part and the real success has to go to the dedicated BSGE group and all BSGE members who put in the time and effort to populate the data.
- Also it should be remembered that each and every patient who consented to their data being used for this research are the real heroes of the piece.
