CRIBB Cyber Security: More pertinent than ever

Written by Asa Sargeant | 05/10/22 13:53

Today we look at a crucial part of theICEway ecosystem: CRIBB Cyber Security. Those who regularly check the news headlines will be very familiar with terms such as ‘cyber-attack’ and ‘hacking’. They might not be as au fait with ‘cyber security’, however, and this is something we aim to change.

Cyber Security Is More Prevalent In The News Today

Just yesterday, CRIBB released an article rounding-up key news updates from September. The blog piece featured hacks against Rockstar Games and Uber to name but two recent victims. There was also an update from the ICO on reprimands they delivered to organisations failing to deal with Subject Access Requests (SARs). On top of all that, there was a huge cyber-attack against Australia’s second-largest telecommunications company, Optus. The attack affected almost 40% of the Australian population, some 2.8 million people.

Hackers targeting high-profile brands. Large-scale organisations in the UK not dealing with requests from people wanting to see copies of their own data. Cyber-attacks affecting literally millions of people.

Simply put, the world we live in today is one that requires everybody to have cyber awareness. Our reliance upon technology has never been so great, our usage of digital platforms so high. We are all potential targets and must do more to protect our data and that of any customers we may have. More than that, we must ensure that we have practices and processes in place designed to mitigate the many risks posed by malicious actors.

Are You Cyber Security Ready?

This year, the experts at CRIBB created an annual cyber security solution named CRIBB CSR. The CSR here does not stand for ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’, though that is certainly something we’ll come back to in this very article. Instead, CSR in this context stands for ‘Cyber Security Ready’. With the NCSC determined to raise cyber awareness, CRIBB’s IT Security professionals are following suit. Their initial objective is to help organisations in Hertfordshire deploy more robust security measures. Then the aim is to spread throughout the UK and then around the world.

CRIBB powers theICEway’s security by design approach to IT solutions. Everybody at ICE strives to be proactive and increasingly nowadays, this must include all efforts with security. More and more clients are coming to the same realisation, too. In recent years many have approached us about cloud migration projects, for example, this born out of a desire to achieve stronger security. With the team from CRIBB alongside us, we’re in the perfect position to provide a true, end-to-end digital service.

CRIBB Cyber Security: A Crucial Part Of TheICEway

Those of you who are familiar with our ecosystem will know the story by now. ICE Support Ltd. was founded in 2007 as a UK MSP and technology consultancy, with IT support another key offering. Our IT services and solutions then grew steadily and in recent years we have added innovative IT products. Throughout the journey, our IT experts have actively developed their skills. We have constantly sought to embrace new and alternative disciplines that will further enhance our overall offering. As an IT company first and foremost, IT Security was always a core area into which we wanted to expand. This desire was achieved in 2016 with the addition to our ecosystem of CRIBB Cyber Security.

CRIBB is an official certification body and data protection specialist. The experienced team can help with any matter, specialising in three key areas:

- Cyber security certifications (incl. Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus)
- Detection & defence (Penetration testing and vulnerability scanning)
- Safeguarding (Data Protection Officer services)

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Earlier in this piece we touched upon CSR – at least in one sense. It would be remiss of us not to look at it in the guise with which most of us are now familiar. So then, what is CSR?

One definition is that it is the idea a company should play a positive role in the community. The company should also consider the impact of its business decisions upon society and the environment.

Whether your organisation has a CSR policy or not, it is clearly here to stay. The team at CRIBB would urge those who do have one, and who regularly process client data, to include cyber security within it. The team here at theICEway would very much like to concur.
