- There will be 44,659 new berths added to the market
- 23,366 berths will be added from ships from 2021 set to debut this year
- In total there will be an extra 68,025 new berths in 2022
- MSC Cruises are adding 2 cruise ships into service, the MSC Seascape and the MSC World Europa
- Europa will be MSC’s biggest cruise ship and its first LNG-powered vessel
- Royal Caribbean International add the Wonder of the Seas and the new Oasis-class ship
- Disney Cruse Line add the Disney Wish, another LNG ship and Disney’s first newbuild in over ten years
- P&O Cruises are adding the Arvia
- Carnival Corporation is adding 6 ships into service
- The Norwegian Prima arrives from Norwegian Cruise Line
It appears that MSC Cruises is set to reroute its ships in the Mediterranean between mid-April and October. This is being done to reduce the risk of harm to the sperm whale population there.
It is estimated that around 200 to 300 sperm whales remain in the area. Over half those found stranded on the Greek coast have endured a collision with vessels and most do not survive. This then is a very welcome move by MSC, who are supported by WWF Greece and the WWF network.
Positive news has emerged that since July 2020, more than 6 million people have taken a cruise. This encouraging figure was included in the 2022 outlook report from Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
