MSC Deploying Electric Tour Buses In Barcelona

Our friends at Seatrade Cruise News report here on MSC Cruises’ attempts to drive sustainability on their Barcelona summer shore excursion programme.

The cruise line is fully committed to achieving net zero carbon emission operations by 2050. This new development promises to save almost 10,500 kilograms of CO2 emissions per year.

Cydome To Certify Vessels For Maritime Cyber Baseline

This Digital Ship piece is on the first certification body to be approved on Maritime Cyber Baseline by IASME.

Cydome provides advanced cyber security protection for those fighting against cyber-criminals both on shore and off. The Maritime Cyber Baseline scheme is supported by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA). It enables vessel owners to mitigate the risks of cyber-attacks. It offers a path to compliance with the IMO Maritime Cyber Risk Management guidelines.

Tech Innovation From Virgin Voyages

Last week, Cruise Industry News released this article on Virgin Voyages’ attempts to improve connectivity for their guests.

IT Director Andy Schwalb pointed out that eliminating ‘the connectivity barrier’ was a key objective. To that end, Virgin Voyages has worked closely with multi-orbit satellite player SES. Together they have developed several innovations, including the bonding of two satellite beams on the Valiant Lady. This will ensure greater bandwidth whilst they are also testing a 5G network connection on another ship.
