ICEbreaker from ICE

by Ian Richardson | August 14, 2017 | General News & Events | 0 Comments

Every month, we put together a newsletter for our valued contacts to round-up and highlight travel technology stories and news which caught our eye. It’s called the ICEbreaker, and here’s a rundown of the latest edition.

This month’s highlights include the future of the digital ship via the lens of Greek ship owners, how Facebook’s chatbots learned to lie, how to stop your data lake from becoming a data swamp and a thoughtful article from The Economist on teaching robots right from wrong.

Meanwhile, a quote from Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has resonated with our own thoughts on not automatically leaping into the next new tech, just because it exists. Jeff said:

“I very frequently get the question: ‘What’s going to change in the next 10 years?’ And that is a very interesting question; it’s a very common one. I almost never get the question: ‘What’s not going to change in the next 10 years?’ And I submit to you that that second question is actually the more important of the two — because you can build a business strategy around the things that are stable in time.”

Richie is excited to be invited by Travel Weekly to join the panel of proven business leaders, experts and entrepreneurs to judge the technology category at this year’s Travolution Awards. The winners will be announced at the awards dinner at the end of November.  These awards are the UK travel industry’s highest accolade for innovation and excellence online and we’re very excited to be playing a role this year.

And what we know is not going to change in our industry is the importance of being mindful of the customer journey. Whatever technology can offer, we must always remember that it must be consistent and enhance your customer experience. If you’d like to talk to us about choosing technology that suits your business, Lois can help set up a meeting.

Until then,
