International Cruise Summit 2020

Written by Asa Sargeant | 25/11/20 16:28

This year’s ICS event is billed as “the present and future of the worldwide cruise industry” and offers industry insiders the opportunity to participate in an interactive conference both online and in person. Co-Founder and CEO of theICEway, Ian Richardson, will once again be attending and is due to speak on Wednesday 2nd December on ‘The Role of IT in Keeping Cruising Safe’.

The year has been a challenging one for cruise, more so than ever before, and so ICS 2020 Madrid is truly not one to be missed. Bringing together a host of high-level international professionals, the summit is an inaugural hybrid event. Attendees in both the Spanish capital and on a virtual platform will be able to tackle crucial topics during the first two days of December. A substantial level of participation is anticipated to again demonstrate the robust nature of the cruise industry, with 2021 set to be a critical year.

The two-day spectacle promises to be one of the highlights of the cruise calendar, with presentations from best-selling author Liggy Webb and Virgin Voyages. We are particularly delighted to recommend that you catch Ian Richardson’s speech on December 2nd at 16:15 CET!

Beginning next Tuesday, the morning will see presentations on ‘maintaining your resilience in a challenging world’, ‘rebuilding a cruise line after the Beirut Port tragedy’ and ‘getting started again – what ports and destinations can learn from those with experience’.

In the afternoon you can attend another round of presentations, including ‘in the hands of science – the search for a vaccine’ and ‘business strategies for Covid-19 transmission contention’. The major topic of 2020, the Coronavirus pandemic has dominated discussions at the recent digital events hosted by Seatrade Cruise (Seatrade Cruise Virtual) and also the World Travel Market (Travel Forward Virtual). You can read more about STC V here and also watch a panel from WTM that was moderated by Ian Richardson here.

Day two of ICS 2020 will feature a presentation entitled, ‘Havila – a new cruise line with LNG / battery operated ships’, before returning to more Covid-related matters with Saga Cruises’ ‘the challenges in laying up a ship during a pandemic’.

The afternoon will close out with a focus on cruise customers, with ‘passenger sentiment towards future cruising’ and ‘getting guests back to cruising – examining sales and marketing strategies’ both on the agenda.
