REvil Ransomware Gang Arrested

This piece from BBC News reveals a ‘monumental moment in cyber-crime’ as Russian authorities dismantled the notorious crime group. The intelligence bureau FSB seized over 426 million Rubles (almost £4.2 million). This vast sum included around £440,000 worth of cryptocurrency.

The arrest came in the wake of the US offering a reward of up to $10m for information leading to REvil following ransomware attacks. This collaboration between the US and Russia marks their first on a cyber-crime operation in many years.

Travelodge Robot Cleaner Makes A Break For Freedom

Another BBC News story from Jan reveals a daring escape attempt made by an automated vacuum device. A touch lighter than our previous article selection, this one occurred in Orchard Park, Cambridge. It seems that the robot failed to stop at the hotel’s front door before enjoying almost a full day of freedom. It was then found under a hedge the following day. Innovation in motion!

Apple Unveils AirTag Safety Portal

At the end of the month, the BBC also ran this story about everyone’s favourite tech giant – Apple. Using their ‘Find My’ network, AirTag devices are designed to locate lost items. The release of ‘The Personal User Safety Guide’ now offers people guidance on keeping their data safe.
