Market Research for IT (LinkedIn & Twitter polls)

Written by Asa Sargeant | 31/01/24 14:52

At the start of September 2023, we published an article containing the findings from polls conducted on social media. Using LinkedIn and Twitter, we spent the summer trying to gauge the thoughts of fellow IT professionals. The findings were interesting enough for us to continue in our poll efforts during September and October. Today, in ‘Market Research for IT’, we present the results – like us, we hope you find them to be of great interest!

Conclusion

Firstly, a huge thanks goes out to all those who voted in our polls. So what are the key takeaways from ‘Market Research for IT’?

- IT professionals on LinkedIn enjoy performing system design & implementation tasks the most
- Conversely, those on Twitter prefer dealing with user needs
- In quite the reversal, LinkedIn voters saw dealing with user needs as the least enjoyable task!
- Twitter voters were evenly split on the least enjoyable task between system design & implementation, dealing with user needs – how strange – and ‘other’, though no comments were left
- Neither LinkedIn nor Twitter participants were inclined to comment despite many votes for ‘Other (please comment)’
- Most of our voters place great emphasis on cyber security within their projects, although many also believe that it can depend on the project itself
- LinkedIn participants felt the same about software testing, whilst those on Twitter also added votes for ‘other’ (no comments again though, sadly)
- Bitdefender and McAfee emerged as clear antivirus favourites across the board
- There were no clear winners for most reliable laptop brand on Twitter, although Apple and Dell were ahead on LinkedIn
- Whilst all Twitter voters primarily use Windows, our LinkedIn voters mainly use that or macOS

What do you think about these findings? Any major surprises? Are they in line with your own feelings? We’d love to hear from you either way!
