Strategic tech trends 2023: Gartner’s top 10

Written by Asa Sargeant | 09/11/22 14:58

Last month, Gartner released its annual top 10 list of the most important technology trends to watch out for. Key strategic tech trends 2023 are set to include ‘Super Apps’, Adaptive AI and the Metaverse. We’re always keen to hear what Gartner thinks, so join us then as we look at the list in full.

The Top 10

- Digital Immune System
- Applied Observability
- AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (AI TRiSM)
- Industry Cloud Platforms
- Platform Engineering
- Wireless-Value Realisation
- Super Apps
- Adaptive AI
- The Metaverse
- Sustainable Technology

The trends fall under four main themes:

- Optimise
- Scale
- Pioneer
- Sustainable tech

Optimise

The three trends sitting under this heading are Digital Immune System, Applied Observability and then AI TRiSM.

Digital Immune System combines multiple software engineering strategies to mitigate risk and to then create an enhanced customer experience. These strategies include observability, automation and extreme design and testing.

Applied Observability uses AI to evaluate an organisation’s data. By doing so, recommendations and decisions can then be made faster and with a higher degree of accuracy.

AI TRiSM manages AI security, controls for privacy and ethics issues. It also deploys new models at a faster rate and combines methods for explaining AI results. AI TRiSM supports AI model governance, trustworthiness, fairness, robustness data protection and more.

Scale

Scale includes Industry Cloud Platforms, Platform Engineering and Wireless-Value Realisation.

Industry Cloud Platforms allow organisations to adapt to industry disruptions with greater ease. They do so by combining SaaS, PaaS and IaaS with tailored, industry-specific functionality.

Platform Engineering provides developers and end users with a curated set of tools and processes designed to increase productivity.

Wireless-Value Realisation essentially covers all wireless network services.

Pioneer

This theme encompasses Super Apps, Adaptive AI and the Metaverse.

A Super App incorporates the features of an app, a platform and then an ecosystem in one. Third parties can then use it to create mini apps within.

Adaptive AI uses real-time feedback to allow for post-deployment model behaviour change. This means that models can be retrained using new data and adjusted goals.

The Metaverse is an innovation that many of us are familiar with thanks to Meta. Transformed versions of the physical world and virtual worlds are extremely useful already, allowing for the replication / enhancement of physical activities for work or play.

Sustainable Tech

Gartner asserts that in 2023, technology must incorporate sustainability. It also states that tech such as traceability, analytics, AI and more must be used to enable enterprise sustainability.

Which of the strategic tech trends 2023 listed here are you looking to embrace? Perhaps you already engage in one or more? If so, then we’d love to hear from you!
