Cruise industry news Aug 2021

Written by Asa Sargeant | 01/09/21 14:48

As September begins, it is time to take a look back at cruise industry news Aug 2021. The feeling within the sector as a whole is an increasingly positive one as more cruise lines begin to re-enter the water. Plus, in a little under 4 weeks’ time there is a cruise gathering you might have heard about…

Britain’s Most Environmentally-Friendly Cruise Ship Sets Sail

The Express ran this story about the Iona from P&O Cruises in August. It is the first British cruise ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Iona is P&O’s newest and most innovative vessel, and the largest passenger ship ever built for the UK cruise market. Completed in 2020, the features on board include a craft gin distillery, an Infinity Pool, a four-screen cinema, a spa, a fitness studio, and over 30 places to enjoy food and beverages.

Oceania Resumes Sailing

Our friends at Cruise Industry News ran this article just last weekend. Oceania Cruises’ The Marina has become the first vessel to welcome guests on board in 524 days. It is also the first to set sail from the port of Copenhagen since 2019. In line with the ‘SailSAFE™ Health and Safety Program’ from NCLH, 100% of guests and crew are vaccinated.

Seatrade Cruise Global 2021

#STCGlobal is almost here so it would be remiss not to mention it in cruise industry news Aug 2021. Whether you intend to go to Miami or attend virtually, you can register your interest here. CEO and co-founder of theICEway, Ian Richardson, will be there in his capacity as a Tech Ambassador. Some of the other team members will join him at what is perhaps the most highly-anticipated event in the cruise calendar. If you need IT solutions or support, we would love to see you there to discuss how we can help.

That’s it for our regular news round-up but we would love to hear from you in the comments section. Was there any cruise news piece that caught your eye in August? Or from 2021 as a whole?
