We’ll look at advances in robotics in the healthcare industry in Wales. Then we’ll hear about another huge fine in the world of data protection. Wales Introduces Robot Arms To Help Perform Cancer Ops

This BBC News story details how cancer patients across Wales may soon be operated on by surgeons controlling robotic arms.

The NHS will adopt the robotic arms to perform procedures on the digestive system and for some gynaecological cancers, amongst others. Our team from ICE has often worked alongside The British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG), so this news is very interesting to us.

€17m Fine For Facebook As It Breaches EU Data Privacy Laws

Meta has been accused of not having the appropriate technical and organisational measures in place by an Irish data watchdog.

After the initial accusation, an inquiry into 12 data breaches then took place. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) then made their decision and two European supervisory authorities raised objections. They were working as part of the GDPR’s decision-making process. Following further engagement with the DPC, however, the fine was then issued.

Heineken Launches Virtual Beer In Metaverse ‘Joke’

Heineken’s ironic virtual beer shows how far businesses will go to embrace the metaverse.

Journalists attended a mock launch in a virtual brewery in Decentraland. In a statement, Heineken stated their new product was “a self-aware idea that pokes fun at us and many other brands… jumping into the metaverse with products… best enjoyed in the real world.”
