Yesterday was supposed to mark the opening of Seatrade Cruise Global 2020 in Miami, a highly anticipated event that was on course to be the largest yet of this hugely popular cruise industry gathering. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic has changed the world as we know it, with the cancellation of events this year being one aspect of the fallout from this unprecedented situation.
Our teams are working remotely right now to stay safe, and we are all following the guidelines set out to halt the spread of this virus. We strongly urge you to do the same, because if we all do our bit the sooner we can return to some kind of normality…
theICEway ecosystem of companies enjoyed an important year in 2019, but in much the same way as this year’s Seatrade Cruise Global event was set to eclipse the 2019 edition, 2020 was going to be another huge step forwards on what has already been an exciting journey of discovery for all of us here.
In a parallel world we would currently find ourselves manning our very first Seatrade stand at the Miami Beach Convention Centre, alongside our friends at Getslash. The event would see us making some major announcements and unveiling some special services, but alas, our team members now find themselves remote working from locations across the globe, as do many of you out there at this incredibly strange and trying time.
For more than twenty years our expert teams at ICE Technology Services, CRIBB Cyber Security and eTestware have worked around-the-clock alongside clients from the cruise industry, with theICEway’s co-founder and CEO, Ian Richardson, also finding time to Chair the CLIA Executive Partner Technology Initiative.
Interestingly, Ian was also going to be the Seatrade Global Technology Ambassador and chairing a number of sessions over 2 days, including a ‘Tech Talk’. That was due to take place on Wednesday 22nd April in what was sure to be one of the event highlights (at least for those of you with a penchant for Information Technology!).
In recent months another of the industries in which theICEway has made a name for itself and which has required much of our attention is healthcare, and we are very proud to be working with our clients in that vital area to deliver projects that will help in the on-going fight against COVID-19.
That being said, and particularly given what would have been had this pandemic not surfaced, we wanted to give a shout out to all of our clients, partners and friends in the cruise industry – an industry that was thriving at the turn of the year, and one which will no doubt thrive once again.
We also wanted to reiterate the fact that we are here for all of our clients – whether in cruise, healthcare, travel, or retail – as we have been over the decades through other challenging experiences.
We are all in this together, and together we will emerge on the other side.
