Tech Trends in 2024 – What can we expect?

by Asa Sargeant | January 10, 2024 | General News & Events | 0 Comments

The Festive Season is officially a thing of the past as we head towards the third week of 2024. The technological landscape is keeping pace as it continues to evolve and shape the way we live. Staying ahead of the curve is crucial for individuals and businesses alike, so here we explore some tech trends in 2024 to watch out for.

Before we dive in, it is important to note that we ran a very similar article this time last year. ‘Tech Trends in 2023‘ revealed the following key areas to watch out for:

- Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML)
- Edge Computing
- 5G Networks
- Quantum Computing

How many of these actually did grow and achieve great things in 2023? We will try to take a closer look further down the road but for now, let’s find out how many might appear on this year’s list…

Advancements In AI

AI had a very impressive year in 2023 and was definitely no stranger to the spotlight. ChatGPT alone drove the number of people using AI in their everyday lives up exponentially. There are numerous job titles now featuring this most famous of abbreviations, too. In 2024, we can expect even more remarkable advancements. There will be further improvements across the board, including in natural language processing and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms. AI is set to move ever closer to revolutionising industries such as healthcare, finance and manufacturing. The continued integration of AI into everyday applications will also lead to smarter, more personalised user experiences.

Edge Computing Dominance

Last year, we wrote about edge computing becoming far more important due to the continued growth in IoT devices. This does not appear to be slowing down, so in 2024, it is likely that we’ll witness even more edge dominance. Look for a shift towards decentralised processing, which will enable faster response times and reduce the burden on central cloud servers. This trend will be crucial for applications requiring real-time data processing, such as autonomous vehicles and smart devices.

5G Revolution

We predicted that the widespread deployment of 5G networks in 2023 would enable new use cases. This rollout continues to gain momentum, promising lightning-fast internet speeds and low latency. As it indeed becomes more widespread, we can anticipate a surge in AR and VR applications and the aforementioned Internet of Things. The increased connectivity will not only reshape how we interact with technology, but how we do so with each other.

Extended Reality (XR) Integration

Extended Reality, encompassing AR, VR, and mixed reality, is set to become more immersive and widespread. This year we can expect XR to penetrate various sectors, including education, healthcare and entertainment. From virtual classrooms to interactive medical simulations, the integration of XR technologies will offer new dimensions to how we perceive and interact with information.

Conclusion

As always, the technological landscape for the year ahead promises innovation and transformation. The trends included above are but a glimpse into the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. We’d love to hear your thoughts on tech trends in 2024 – what do you think might reshape industries? Which innovation may further redefine the way we experience and interact with the digital world?
